Most of this shelf is trying to soften a hard armrest. This one is trying to rebuild it. At 2.7 in thick it is about 1.7 times the next thickest pad here, the ZNCMRR at 1.57 in, arc-shaped rather than flat, and BEAUTRIP is explicit that the extra height is part of the point — the pad “acts as a riser… by increasing the height of the chair arms”. On a chair whose arms sit too low under a desk that is a genuine fix; on one that was already set correctly it is a change you will have to absorb.

The fit window is the widest published on this shelf: chair arms from 3 to 6 in across, where the Western Comfort pads stop at arms 3 in wide. The material is a cooling gel insert over a 100 per cent memory foam core of stated moderate hardness, under a crystal velvet cover that comes off on a hidden zip, held by velcro straps and non-slip particles underneath.

One thing to read with care. The last bullet offers the same pad as a mouse wrist rest and a keyboard wrist pad. A 2.7 in arc under the wrist is a very different proposition from a 2.7 in arc under the elbow, and a listing that sells one shape for three jobs is describing a market rather than a design. The specifications above it are the part to buy on.

What holds up, and what does not

Best for: A wide or padded armrest that is also too low, where the pad has to raise the arm as well as soften it.

Strengths

  • 2.7 in thick, about 1.7 times the next thickest pad in this hub (ZNCMRR, 1.57 in), so it raises the arm as well as cushioning it
  • The widest published fit window here — chair arms from 3 to 6 in across
  • Cooling gel insert on top of 100 per cent memory foam, stated to absorb heat
  • Arc-contoured rather than flat, shaped to the wrist, arm and elbow
  • Velcro straps and non-slip particles underneath; crystal velvet cover off on a hidden zip for the machine

Compromises

  • The highest price in this hub
  • 2.7 in of added height changes the arm position the chair was adjusted to
  • The same listing offers the pad as a mouse wrist rest and a keyboard wrist pad, which are three different jobs for one shape
  • No firmness or gel thickness published — "moderate hardness" is as specific as the foam gets
  • Only the cover is washable: the listing says not to put the memory foam in the washer or dryer

What buyers ask us first

Does the thickness matter beyond comfort?

Yes, and BEAUTRIP says so: the pad "acts as a riser for office chairs, gaming chair, desk chairs and wheelchairs by increasing the height of the chair arms". At 2.7 in that is a real change in arm height, which helps on a chair whose arms sit too low under a desk and hurts on one that was already right. It is the only pad on this shelf that is also an adjustment.

What does the gel insert actually do?

Gel conducts heat away from the contact point better than foam does, which is why it sits on top rather than inside. BEAUTRIP states the insert is there "to maximize comfort by keeping you cool and absorbing body heat to better adapt to your contours", over a 100 per cent memory foam core of moderate hardness. The LargeLeaf pad already on this shelf uses the same combination in a 1.2 in pad; this one puts it in a 2.7 in one.
