What's the general process for assembling a standing desk frame?

Most electric frames go together the same way: lay the desktop face-down on something soft, build the frame on its underside, tighten bolts fully only once everything is square, then turn the desk upright with two people and run it through its full range empty before loading it. Your model’s manual has the final word on order and bolt sizes.

Before you start. Unpack everything and check the parts against the list — a missing bracket is easier to chase before half the desk is built. Clear a floor space larger than the desktop, and put a blanket or the packaging foam under the top so it is not scratched. A drill-driver with a clutch helps; set it low so it cannot strip the screw holes in a particleboard top.

1. Lay out the desktop. Face-down, centred, with the side you want facing you nearest the edge you will work from. A two-piece top — like the Veken and ErGear in our electric standing desks hub — is joined first by the frame’s brackets, so line the two halves up carefully: the seam will sit under your keyboard or monitors.

2. Build the frame on it. Attach the legs to the crossbar or side brackets, and on an extendable frame set the crossbar to the desktop’s width. Leave the bolts snug, not tight.

3. Square it, then tighten. Check that both legs are square to the crossbar and the frame sits evenly on the top; then tighten every bolt. A frame tightened slightly askew can bind or lift unevenly once powered.

4. Fix the frame to the top. Screw through the brackets into the pre-drilled holes or the marked positions, without overtightening into particleboard.

5. Wire it. Connect the legs’ motor cables and the hand controller to the control box, fix the box under the top, and clip the cables away from the legs’ moving sections — routing cables under a standing desk covers how to leave slack for the full travel.

6. Turn it upright with two people. A frame and top together are heavy and awkward; lift, don’t pivot it on its legs, which strains the leg joints.

7. Test it empty. Plug in and follow the manual’s first-use step — many frames need a reset, usually by holding the down button, before they move normally. Then run the desk to its lowest and highest positions and check both sides move together. Only then add monitors and equipment.

How long it takes. The Veken’s listing gives 10 to 30 minutes; a desk with drawers and a monitor stand, like the OffiGo, takes longer. If a part breaks or goes missing later, the standing desk parts hub has replacement motors, a motor kit with its hand controller and complete frames, and whether controllers are replaceable explains how to match one.
