This is the more sober of the two RidRed sets on this shelf, and the comparison between them is the interesting part: the same brand, the same stem, the same polyurethane, and load claims of 700 lb here against 2,000 lb on its stablemate. Nothing on either page explains the difference, and the more modest number is on the dual-wheel set built for carpet.

What this listing has to itself is a noise figure. Twenty-eight decibels, published as a specification, with no distance, no surface and no load attached — quieter than a quiet library, for a wheel carrying a seated adult. It is the only acoustic claim in this hub and it is worth treating as marketing rather than measurement, in a category where “quiet” is otherwise an adjective.

The useful parts are concrete. The stem is 7/16 by 7/8 in, 11 × 22 mm (0.43 × 0.87 in). Compatibility is claimed both ways — “99% of office chairs” and, by name, Aeron, Herman Miller and Steelcase — with IKEA excluded, as it is on most of the American sets here. And one small sign of how carefully the page was assembled: the HEAVY DUTY bullet appears twice, word for word.

What holds up, and what does not

Best for: A shared office or a quiet room, on a chair named in the listing.

Strengths

  • Publishes a noise figure — 28 dB — which no other caster in this hub does
  • A 700 lb claim with the metric equivalent given, 317.5 kg — modest beside the 1,000 to 2,500 lb figures elsewhere on this shelf
  • Names chairs it fits — Aeron, Herman Miller, Steelcase — alongside a "99% of office chairs" claim
  • Synchronized dual-wheel structure, stated to reduce jamming on thick carpet and uneven floors
  • Shock-absorbing polyurethane wheels; tool-free fitting

Compromises

  • The HEAVY DUTY bullet is printed twice, word for word, on the listing
  • A 28 dB claim has no test method, distance or surface attached to it
  • Not compatible with IKEA chairs
  • No load per wheel given — 700 lb is a single figure for the set

What buyers ask us first

Is 28 decibels believable?

It is unusually specific and entirely unqualified. The listing states the casters "glide at an ultra-low 28dB" with no measurement distance, no floor surface, no load and no standard — and 28 dB is quieter than a library, which is a claim about a wheel rolling under the weight of a seated adult. It is quoted here because it is the only noise figure on the shelf; it is not a number anyone can check from the page.

What does the dual wheel actually do?

It splits the load across two narrower wheels on one axle and keeps the caster from jamming when it has to swivel on carpet. RidRed states it as "synchronized dual-wheel structure reduce jamming, ensuring effort-free movement", and the same construction is what the European caster set already in this hub uses. On a thick pile it is the difference between the chair turning and the caster dragging sideways.
